A Mindful & Drama Free Holiday!!
There is a lot of mindful articles out there this holiday with a list of things to remember for a more joyful season. They talk about the shopping, more “Me” time, eating in moderation, don’t over plan & overwhelm yourself,.. all great points.
There is one thing though that we’d like to add and feel is also a key element to share in the spirit of having a mindful holiday and Here it is. Whatever Family or friends gathering you will be attending this season make sure you don’t get caught up with your own drama. The ego, yes! your ego is constantly there trying so hard to make it’s presence known. It has a really hard time laying low. It doesn’t like to be ignored. It wants to be seen and heard. It will even sometimes go to the extreme and make a big scene to get noticed. (hence the big uncomfortable outbreaks that come out of left field)
Here’s some advice from our house to yours: Take a backseat to that movie playing in your head of everything happening in your life. Just observe it and don’t act on it. Your mind can seriously make you and everyone around you crazy. Whatever thoughts and feelings come upon don’t react to them just observe them and stay in the present enjoying the moments & the people around you.
Let’s set the scene shall we: Before you enter a family gathering remember to check yourself at the door and play this song in your head: Michael Bublé’s “ Feeling good” Pretend you are wearing a big apron tied around you with the message on the front written in big bold letters that says ”It’s not about me”. If we all had a holiday gathering with this mindset we would probably all have a smashing time with our family and our friends. Isn’t that what it’s all about anyway?
In the end all of us just want to be happier and at peace more often in our lives. We want to feel loved and appreciated. Being more conscious of our actions and words with all of the people we love will definitely help make life more joyful.
Happy Holidays!
